Try That in a Small Town…

I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving!

For Thanksgiving this year I flew out to see my family (who I hadn’t seen since early summer).  I was a wee bit home sick for family.  They decided to mix it up this year (like that one time my dad took the family to Grand Turk in Caicos - punny, right? - for Thanksgiving via a cruise ship).  I’m actually anticipating my second cruise in 2024 - but not in the Caribbean ocean.  Fingers crossed it won’t be as choppy as that random tropical storm on the last night of that Thanksgiving cruise, because I’ve never been so sick in my entire life.  Brave, no?  To try cruising again?  Quick story - when I was in Croatia I got deathly ill mid trip from a noro virus - and after surviving a night of near death I was out kayaking the Adriatic Sea the next morning.  So I am brave warrior.

Anyways, back to Thanksgiving 2023.  I’m one of those weirdos in that I don’t have a toxic family and we actually enjoy being around each other.  And we actually love and respect each other.  Seems to not be the norm these days.

This year, to celebrate Thanksgiving and catch a little r&r, we stayed at a remote Airbnb in a small town.  The house was a cute but spacious three bedroom chalet with a really open floor plan and a cozy front porch and back deck, pool table, lots of comfy lounging couches, and a fire pit.

For $59.98, you too can be the proud owner of a Buc-ee’s holiday inflatable!

This trip was such a refreshing change of scenery for me from the hustle and bustle of the big city and trains and just a much needed rest for my soul.

Honestly it was like one of those Christmas Hallmark slash Lifetime movies where a single girl from the big city comes to small town for the holidays…except it wasn’t gay and I never met my gorgeous single country guy who owned a maple syrup farm in Vermont riding in the back of a horse drawn carriage.  But I did read a few great books!  So, overall it was a win.

I personally caught up on so much sleep nestled in a cozy corner bedroom tucked away in the woods while snuggled up next to two cute shih tzus.  We cooked breakfast every morning and made several amazing meals, we shot guns at the coolest outdoor shooting park (where you could shoot skeet, trap, and rifle), had several competitive billiards matches, watched some traditional holiday movies (“Trains, Planes, and Automobiles” being my all-time favorite), visited a gorgeous state park and hiked and played with the dogs, visited a quaint Italian restaurant downtown one night, and went to a local playhouse to see a Christmas themed play.

And, my favorite scene from my favorite holiday movie (pardon the language but I can so relate to this “customer service” meltdown…we’ve all been there at one point.  Every single time I watch this I laugh until I can’t breathe):

We watched a ton of rivalry week football and the Westminster Dog Show which I try to watch every year (and attempt to predict the winner).  I even found a great pair of jeans on a shopping outing our last day in a local small town denim shop.  I’ve wanted a pair of these vintage jeans for way too long…and, when in Rome…ya wear Wranglers…or Carhartt.  Pro-American brands!

The manicotti at this locally owned family owned restaurant was a huge win…

This playhouse is super cute and has a unique layout for the audience!

This is my new favorite color.  The weather waa in the teens in Colorado while I enjoyed weather in the mid 50s on holiday with light sweaters during the day…
There are very few pictures of me this Thanksgiving not holding a puppy…
Cozy farmhouse table that the girls loved at mea time…

My first pair of Wranglers.  I found these iconic retro cowgirl style boot leg jeans to don back in Colorado!

I would be remiss if I didn’t drop this controversial song by Jason Aldean.  I am a fan because it’s not “woke”:

I hope this Thanksgiving season is a time for self reflection and a focus on all you’re thankful for.  One thing is for sure: there’s always something to be grateful for.  And I’m heavy on the gratitide lately.  One of my top blessings is my wonderful family and this awesome time spent together.

Regards and much blessings,
