I'll Keep You My Dirty Little Secret...

Why hello!  Fancy seeing you here...back reading more intriguing random stuff?

I'm hoping if you're reading this, you've seen the movie "Legally Blonde."  It's about a spunky blonde fashion student who chases after a boy all the way to Harvard Law School.  I watched this movie on a recent road trip.  I thought, wow, how different the plot would have been if it was me, a spunky red head being dumped by my boyfriend (for no reason other than I wasn't part of the East Coast country club scene and namesakes.)  I would no doubt tell the guy to eff off and sashay away with my head held high.  But, not Elle Woods.  It took her 1 hour and minutes to finally figure out that if someone couldn't see her worth to begin with, they were a huge waste of time.

Now rewind back to the year 2008.  There was a young up and coming motivational speaker named Travis Alexander residing in Mesa, AZ.  He randomly met a "legally blonde" bomb shell named Jodi Arias at one of his seminars and they had a long tumultuous love affair.  And, Jodi didn't like it one bit.  Travis was a devout Mormon and hid the affair while dating Mormon women he found more suitable for marriage, all while keeping Jodi as his Dirty Little Secret.

Travis's friends show up to his house in Mesa after he went off grid for several days.  After locating a key to his bedroom, his buddies walked in on one of the grizzliest gruesome murder scenes...pools of blood and their friend, Travis, bloated and nearly decapitated, slouched over in the floor of his shower stall.  Coroners would later testify that Travis had 29 total stab wounds, a shot to the head with a hand gun, and his head nearly cut off, sliced right at the carotid artery.

When his friends, in a panic, called 911 to report the murder scene, the operator asked if they knew anyone who do something so horrific.  One of the friends said, "Jodi Arias."  Jodi called the detective and offered to provide any assistance as Travis' ex girlfriend.  However, the detective had already found a camera left at the murder house in the washing machine.  Through forensics, he was able to pull some naughty pictures of Jodi and Travis in very compromising sexual positions and totally naked.  Also on the memory card were pictures of Travis right before the murder and totally time stamped.

Jodi initially denied being there.  You can actually YouTube her entire interrogation.  It's quite bizarre...she's even doing head stands and singing songs.  After several hours of interrogation, Jodi then made up a story of Ninjas burglarizing the home, killing Travis, and then threatening her if she ever told.  Two years later, Jodi would again change her story to "self'-defense."

Here's what we know from the trial about the days leading up to this gruesome murder:

June 2: Between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. - There had been a series of phone calls back and forth between Travis and Jodi.  It is alleged that Travis called Jodi a Sociopath and stated that he wished he had never met her.  Also around this time, Travis had planned a trip to Cancun, Mexico where he was planning to take Jodi.  Last minute, Travis changed his travel partner to another female companion.

No one has seen wrath like a woman scorned. Jodi reached her boiling point!

Next thing you know, Jodi's grandparent's house gets burglarized.  And, guess what shows up missing?  A .25 caliber hanggun.  The same bullet found at the murder scene.  By the way, this gun was never recovered.

Jodi then rents a car and dies her blonde hair to a sultry brunette.  She buys a bunch of gas cans so she doesn't have to stop at gas stations which are notorious for close circuit security cameras.  Plus she wanted no credit card tracing.  When she finally got to Mesa...well, a blood bath ensued.  And, she showed Travis that she was worth much more than his dirty little side piece with a knife.

Now fast forward to 2013:

Jodi was incarcerated for first degree murder after she told Inside Edition in 2008, "No jury is going to convict me...because I am innocent."  Jody later confessed that she said those words because she had planned on taking her own life, and that's why she would never be convicted.  Jodi also made comments that if she had, indeed done the grueosome deed that she would beg for the death penalty.  She later begged for her life at the sentencing phase (stating that it would be a sin to murder her and her family would miss heh).  However, Jodi continually made the trial all about herself.  When she had an opportunity to stand in front of jury of her peers, she pulled out a t-shirt she had designed for victims of domestic violence.

Jodi took the stand in her own murder trial on February 4, 2013.  She testified for a total of 18 days which was totally unprecedented.  A few things that got top ratings in this murder trial:

Jodi outlined their entire sordid sexual affair in an attempt to outline mental and and physical abuse.  From confessing that Travis mostly wanted oral and anal as to not defy Mormon rules of vaginal intercourse to alleging that Travis had pedophiliac tendencies (even though no proof of any child porn was ever found on his laptop as Jodi testified.)  Viewers, in an almost voyeuristic fashion, listened to recorded sex tapes (where Jodi had, unbeknownst to Travis, recorded him telling her what all he wanted to do to her while calling her "the three hole wonder".)  On the tapes, Jodi would giggle and sound excited to be debased.  However, later in the trial she painted herself as a victim of Travis' sexual abuse.

What most intrigued the viewer was how smart and well-spoken (in a faint innocent voice) Jodi presented herself.  I tuned in every day when I got home from work to watch Juan Martinez cross examine her.  I was a huge fan of Juan.  Also, viewers saw Jodi go from Legally blonde to a mousy librarian, almost homely looking with these bulky glasses and greasy hair.

Here are some pictures of me visiting the murder house in Mesa, AZ on my last road trip:

This is the Alexander murder house!  People actually live in it!

I'm stealth mode at the children's playground right across the street from Travis's house (because the owners were backing out of the driveway).

So, I dunno, after the whole murder, one is left to consider the following:

1) Did Travis deserve this end to his young life?  No, probably not.
2) Does not treating women like dirty side pieces reduce one's chance of getting murdered?  Probably so.

Here's the link to Jodi's interrogation:

And, here's a theme song:

Thanks for stopping in to read about my journey.  I hope you have a terrific weekend!
Love, Kimmie
